AGRICULTURE & THE ENVIRONMENT

Agricultura y medio ambiente

EFFECTS GENERATED BY THE AGRICULTURE INDUSTRY IN THE 90’S

In the 90’s, tools, methods and technologies for the care and growth of crops that impacted the environment over time, in different ways, were developed; causing the contamination of water and soil through the use of fertilizers and pesticides that were used in the sowing, development and growth of crops.

FERTILIZERS AND PESTICIDES

Agrochemical products and waste in almost every developed and underdeveloped countries affected soil and groundwater contamination. Corruption of land occurs when fertilizers are used excessively, that is, they are used in an amount greater than the crops can absorb, therefore, it is exposed on the surface and can be dragged by the wind to lakes, rivers, ponds, etc., generating a nutrient overload. On the other hand, pesticides reduce biodiversity, since they eliminate herbs and insects and with them different species of food that are used for other types of animals.

TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCES IN AGRICULTURE

The technological advances that exist today contribute to the care of the environment, since over time different studies and mechanisms have been generated to facilitate the planting and care of crops, where it has been possible to reduce the use of fertilizers and pesticides pollutants creating organic and volatile products that do not affect the soil, subsoil, groundwater, rivers or lakes.

HOW DOES AGRICULTURE CONTRIBUTE IN THE CURRENT TIME?

On the other hand, agriculture is a great ally of the planet, as it helps eliminate excess carbon in the environment; The soils that are used for cultivation can store up to 1,553 million tons of carbon from crop and manure residues, and it is estimated that by 2030 it will increase by 30%.
Another positive factor is the decrease in carbon dioxide emissions of more than 50%, due to the reduction in the use of fossil fuels in tillage. Carbon dioxide in plants generates positive effects, helping them reduce water loss and improve its performance, also stimulates photosynthesis and has a fertilizing effect on crops.
For this reason it can be said that agriculture is vital for the planet, since with the advances that exist today, it is necessary that the land is cultivated for the absorption of different gases that help the planet to keep in balance and its once they stimulate the growth and yield of the crops.
